Malia...Our Angel of Hope & Joy

Amidst the hustle and bustle of a busy, hectic Christmas season I was brought to my knees as I drove home from shopping today and turned into our subdivision. And there I was face to face with a blaze of PINK. Before me was the most spectacular sunset I have ever seen...against the backdrop of snow topped evergreens twinkling with tiny, white Christmas lights!!

Memories of Christmas past rushed into my mind. Happy times. Times of giving. Precious times of family together. Gifts everywhere. Smells of cookies baking and a fire crackling in the fireplace. Anticipation of Santa and his reindeer leaving the children the presents they had so painstakingly written on their lists. Listening to pastor read the story of Baby Jesus and singing those beloved Christmas carols with family and friends.

Maggie loved Christmas. She could be seen sitting on her bed, late into the night wrapping the gifts she had picked out for each person on her list. Santa Baby playing in the background. I can still see her bright smile on Christmas morning as she knelt beneath the tree to begin opening her gifts.

I am so thankful for each Christmas we had together. So thankful that her tired body is now healed and she is in a place where her cancer can't hurt her anymore. She spoke to me through that sunset just now. I heard her soft voice saying, "It's OK, Mom. I'm doing well. Enjoy this season with family and friends. Love precious little Malia with ALL your heart. I feel it every time you kiss her tiny wrinkled forehead. She's God's tiniest Angel sent into this world on the very day I died to fill your life with hope and joy,"

"But the angel said, 'Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy. Today in the town of David a savior has been born to you; He is Christ the Lord.'"

Luke 2:10 & 11
